Gannon University, a Catholic university located in Erie, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Director of Public Relations and Communications and Special Assistant to the President. This position reports directly to the President and serves as a member of the President’s Staff, working closely with the Provost, other vice presidents and department heads within the University. The director serves as the University’s official spokesperson and works closely with the media and Gannon constituencies to build understanding of and support for Gannon University’s Mission; develops the University’s comprehensive public and media relations, communications and crisis communications plans; assists with the University’s branding and marketing initiatives; participates in strategic planning; oversees the writing, editing and production of four quarterly University publications; and disseminates other important information about the University to students, faculty and the general public.
Requirements include a history of increasingly responsible management appointments with preferred experience in higher education and/or the media; experience in strategic planning, public relations, and communications; a demonstrated knowledge of all areas to be supervised; excellent written and oral communication skills; an administrative style that emphasizes collaboration with faculty, staff and students; the ability to contribute to the Mission of the University; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, and a graduate degree and/or proven professional experience are preferred.
